Tony Ryan's life story, the biographical content includes the rise and fall of Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) and the formation and success of Ryanair, while of aviation interest too are the connections with Aer Lingus and the early background to deregulation in Ireland, the UK and Europe. Set up in the mid-1970s, GPA expanded rapidly as a pioneer of operating leases with Tony Ryan as its CEO. It earned huge profits while air transport boomed in the late 1980s by leasing increasing numbers of used aircraft, much of it due to Ryan's aggressive initiatives, management drive and ambition. Not immune to the downside risk of recession in the early nineties and with the inability to finance large orders for new aircraft, the IPO failed and led to the demise of GPA. The book gives Tony Ryan's perspective.
