Perhaps the most astonishing example of Dubai's aviation ambitions was on the drive into the new venue at Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International Airport. The scale of this huge endeavour (some 55,000 acres), which will feature five parallel runways and the capacity to handle some 160million passengers a year is only really appreciated on a long drive around the perimeter, where tiny tails in the distance are actually jumbo jets.
