摘要

With a population of 67m and a GDP of $365bn in 2013, Thailand is a country that offers economic conditions for industrial growth and, although, the general belief is that agriculture is one of its main economic sectors, it only represents a modest 12% of the total. With the growth of commercial airlines around Asia, the Government of Thailand has determined that it too should grab a bigger slice of aviation's economic pie. However, this ambition is not centred around designing and manufacturing its own brand aircraft but rather to build up its Tier 1, 2 and 3 supplier base alongside maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities. Driven in part by the Thai Board of Investment (Bol), deputy director Ms Polapat Naphavaranonth, has been heading an international campaign to extol the virtues for international aerospace sector companies to base their regional facilities in Thailand. According to the Bol's figures, Thailand's aircraft maintenance industry was valued at $637m in 2012, an increase of 20% over the previous year.
