Speak to anyone in the aerospace industry and quality is at the top of their agenda. In a safety critical industry, quality has always been of prime importance. Recent events at major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have shown that reworks required late in the design cycle can lead to disastrous delays during the flight test and certification process resulting in penalties for late deliveries. If the problems are not discovered until after the aircraft have been delivered to customers, then the costs and damage to reputation escalate.
