Wing Commander Ken Wallis delivered this lecture to the General Aviation Group on 9 May, speaking on the 103 years of aviation adventure that his family has enjoyed. Side interests have included sailing, fast and special cars, racing motor cycles, championship speedboats, gliding, military flying and all forms of autogyros. It began with the Wallbro monoplane that made a brief flight before being destroyed in its shed in a freak storm. Wg Cdr Wallis took civilian flying lessons before WW2, gained a PPL(A) but was rejected by the RAFVR for poor sight in one eye, a source of continuing trouble with the authorities and several very amusing anecdotes during the lecture. He flew Lysanders and Wellingtons during the war, surviving two crashes, and transferred to the Technical Branch in order to remain in the Service.
