There are lots of good reasons why one might want to work beyond statutory retirement. Tying up loose ends might well be one of them. In one particular case, the final date to close the laptop would be another ten years away, as 2022 is the best guess for full deployment of the new UK carrier force. That might prove just too far away; but the history of this piece of procurement is shaping up to be a classic of its kind.
