Lufthansa has placed an order worth some $19bn for widebody airliners, split between Airbus A350s and Boeing's new variant of the 777,the777X. The deal breaks down into 34 Boeing 777-9Xs and 25 Airbus A350XWBs (along with 30 options) which will replace older 747-400s and A340-300s in service with the airline. Deliveries of the first A350 to Lufthansa will begin in 2016, with the carrier to receive its first 777X in 2020.
