The Kepler space telescope has discovered what scientists believe to be the first exo-planet with 'habitable' type conditions apart from Earth. The planet, now called Kepler 22-b is some 600 light years away. It has a year of around 290 days and an average temperature of 22℃ - suggesting that it could support the existence of liquid water. The planet was first reported as one of 54 possible Earth-like planets last February but has now been confirmed.
