On 29-31 May the RAeS Flight Simulation and Rotorcraft Groups held a joint conference on 'Rotary Wing Mission Training Rehearsal and the Role of Flight Simulation'. The conference covered a wide range of subjects from types of simulators, to legal issues of liability (authorities increasingly view where the accident occurred as irrelevant) to the most common types of helicopter accidents, and insurance. That more simulation and higher levels of training would bring benefits, there was broad agreement, however, the delegates and speakers noted that the wide range of missions that helicopters undertake meant that an 'airline pilot' style one-size fits all training would be impossible (although one suggestion from the floor was that a helicopter MPL be considered).
