Opening the show in style on the Monday with the RAF Red Arrows display team was Vulcan XV558, whose team had raced to prepare the iconic aircraft for the air display season after engine damage sustained in May. Though (funding permitting) the Vulcan may return in 2013, its appearance at the show was likely to have been its last ever Farnborough -some 60 years after it first visited.
