Two Turkish Air Force F-16 fighters intercepted a Syrian Arab Airlines Airbus A320 on 10 October and forced it to land in Ankara because it was suspected of carrying 'illegal cargo', presumed to refer to military equipment. The aircraft, which was on a flight from Moscow with 35 passengers on board, was searched and several boxes were removed from the cargo hold before the A320 was allowed to continue to Damascus.
