The Isle of Man belies the fact that, in this ultra-globalised world, scale is everything. It is true that it enjoys special privileges not open to other regions or nations but, by a proactive, agile approach, it is carving out a niche far beyond its tiny size. Space commerce, micro jet turbines and a customer-focused business jet registration are giving it a global presence. In addition, its small size also gives it other advantages, such as accessibility to decision makers and in informing future generations of the excitement of an aerospace and engineering career (a fact perhaps helped by the IoM's 'speedfreak' culture). Most importantly though, it recognises that any government or company that attempts to eliminate risk, also eliminates innovation.
