NASA has revealed its proposed new rocket for deep-space exploration and as a back-up space access system to the ISS.The Space Launch System (SLS) will be more powerful than even the Saturn V launcher and will initially be capable of putting 70 tonnes into orbit, with the potential to be evolved into a 130 tonne capability. The manned spacecraft to be launched will be the Orion capsule left over from the cancelled Constellation project. NASA says a first flight is expected in 2017.
