According to recent estimates, air traffic is expected to double by 2030, raising public concern over not only the environmental impact (in terms of emissions) but also how airspace capacity needs to increase around airports to accommodate the growth. This second aspect then raises concerns over congested airspace and increased noise pollution around airports. There are also fears that current air traffic control (ATC) system will not be able to accommodate the projected increase in air traffic.
