Libyan House of Representatives presidentAguila Salah Issa arrived in Paris onMonday January 11. French Senatepresident Gérard Larcher, who had beenready to receive him at 8 am, was finallyonly able to meet him at the end of theafternoon. The Air Libya Gulfstream G300business jet, in which Salah Issa travelledfrom Al Beida, only landed at Paris's LeBourget airport at around 3.30 pm localtime. Travelling with Salah Issa were houseforeign affairs committee chairman YousefAl Aouri and Kufra deputy Saâd Moghaib.Salah Issa has made no statement regardingthe reasons for his visit, during which healso plans talks with French NationalAssembly president Richard Ferrand andmeetings at the French foreign affairsministry. The head of the eastern Libyanparliament badly needs to rebuild hisdiplomatic support. The "ticket" he wantedto set up with Tripoli government interiorminister Fathi Bachagha with the aim offorming a new government of nationalaccord to succeed the one led by FayezSarraj failed to obtain adequate support.Bachagha seems to want to go it alone,moreover, establishing contact with capitalswhich, until now, have given their supportto Salah Issa and Libyan National Armychief Khalifa Haftar. Bachagha was receivedwith full honours in Paris on 19 Novemberand was invited in December to visitMoscow. He has also moved closer to Egyptafter hosting a delegation from Cairo inTripoli on 28 December.
