After being brought in for questioning bythe French financial crimes brigade inDecember (Africa Intelligence, 23/11/20),the tax lawyer Laurent Moury wasquestioned for a whole day on 8 Januaryand then quizzed again three days later. He was asked about the various legal andfinancial arrangements he made for themining arm of Areva, now Orano, at thetime it was headed by Sébastien deMontessus, now CEO of EndeavourMining. Moury was involved in numerousentities on behalf of Areva's partner inNamibia, businessman Haddis Tilahun(Africa Intelligence, 04/01/21). He alsoincorporated some of the legal vehiclesthrough which passed the proceeds of thesale, at a loss, of 5m tonnes of uranium toNiger by the French group in 2011. It is thistransaction, instigated by Areva's reactordivision and carried out by the Frenchgroup's mining division that the Frenchcourt is interested in getting to the bottomof and into which it opened an inquiry inNovember.
