Russia is struggling to meet delivery deadlines for its Sputnik V vaccines due to heavy demand, with several African capitals still waiting for their first doses. This is the case in Togo, for example, where Health Minister Moustafa Mijiyawa on February 22 authorised the Covid- 19 vaccine to be deployed in the country. Togo ordered 500,000 doses in early March but is not expected to receive the first 100,000 until June. The delivery time for Sputnik V was initially estimated at 30 days, but had already been extended to 60 days by the beginning of March. Russia's Gamaleya Research Institute, which developed Sputnik V, has since 1 April set a minimum delivery time of 90 days for 100,000 doses. In Africa, the Russian vaccine has been ordered by less than ten countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, Congo, and Guinea.
