Fearing a new outbreak of avian flu in late April, SouthAfrica's ostrich farmers, who supply the luxury goodscompany Kering (Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, BottegaVeneta), have been on the alert. Owned by the Pinaultfamily, Kering purchases a large proportion of the mohairwool, sheepskin and crocodile skins used in its clothesbrands, as well as all of its ostrich leather, in SouthAfrica, the world's leading producer of mohair and ostrichproducts.
