It's a family affair for Salwa Akhannouch, wife of prime minister Aziz Akhannouch and head of the Aksal retail empire, as she prepares for next year's launch of Wasal, an online marketplace touted amid much media fanfare as "Africa's Amazon." Within the holding company, the project is being run through Ayourworld Company, a low-key e-commerce subsidiary created in July 2020. Salwa Akhannouch is both its chair and CEO. Her two daughters, Soukayna Akhannouch, 28, and Kenza Akhannouch, 24 are also on the board. So is Youssef Iraqi Housseini, who is also the administrative and financial director of the Akwa industrial empire - comprising Afriquia service stations, Afriquia Gaz, and Maghreb Oxygen, among others - which is co-owned by the Akhannouch and Wakrim families. Several members of the latter also work at Aksal.
