The dispute launched in 2013 by Interocean OilrnDevelopment Co and Interocean OilrnExploration Co, both formerly controlled byrnItalian family Fabbri, against the Nigerian State,rnhas been stopped in its tracks. In mid-August,rnAbuja requested for the three arbitratorsrnassigned to the case at the International Centrernfor Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)rnto be revoked. Nigeria is reported to claim thatrnthe trio is overly favourable towards Interocean.rnWhen contacted, Nigeria’s lawyers did not wishrnto reply to our questions. The Fabbri familyrninitiated the arbitration on the grounds that thernAbuja authorities were connected with therntakeover of Panocean by Nigerian shareholders.rnPanocean is a joint venture between Interoceanrnand Nigerian National Petroleum Corp (NNPC)rnwhich operates the Ogharefe field in the NigerrnDelta ( AEI 706).
