The country’s oil sector is in much need of arnshake-up. Aware of this, president EdgarrnLungu gave the official green light for Britishrnjunior Tullow Oil to beging exploration work inrnthe north of the country in the hope it make anrnoil discovery there. The company was grantedrnblock 31 near Lake Tanganyika in June 2016,rnwhich it expects to spend 2 to 10 yearsrnexploring ( AEI 772). Neighbouring statesrnTanzanian, Congo-K, Burundi and Zambia havernbegun to see Lake Tanganyika as an enviablernoil zone. They are examining the idea ofrnforming a common exploration strategy in thernregion ( AEI 787). Oil discoveries wouldrnallow Zambia to diversify its economy,rncurrently heavily dependent on copperrnproduction.
