The European Investment Bank (EIB) is currentlyrnexploring its options on what financial support itrncan put towards the construction of the 420 MWrnNachtigal dam on the Sanaga River, some 60kmrnfrom Yaounde. The loan amount has yet to berndetermined but will be joined by a contributionrnfrom the International Finance Corporation (IFC,rnmember of the World Bank). The IFC holds a 30%rnstake in Nachtigal Hydro Power Co (NHPC) andrnwill contribute to the €1 billion required torncomplete the project. The exact amount, whichrncould be as high as €130 million, will bernannounced in October ( AEI 796). In late July,rnNHPC signed an agreement with Cameroon’srnAgence de promotion des investissements,rnoffering the company a series of tax incentivesrnand customs benefits.
