Now that the general election is over,rnand even though the leader of the oppositionrnRaila Odinga has challenged thernresults of the August 8 polls in thernSupreme Court, the partners of blocksrn10BB and 13T in the Lokichar basin canrnresume their operations. Tullow Oil,rnMaersk (recently bought by Total) andrnAfrica Oil Corp. intend to drill three newrnwells before the end of the year. Thernfirms have also continued to work withrnthe Kenyan authorities to fine-tune therncommercial and financial conditions forrnthe future export pipeline intended tornconnect the Lokichar basin fields withrnKenya’s Mombasa port. Energy minister,rnCharles Keter, who has a good chancernof holding on to his portfolio in re-electedrnpresident Uhuru Kenyatta’s new government,rnhad put the Early Oil Pilot Schemernon hold in anticipation of the electionsrn( AEI 797). This scheme aims to producern2,000 bpd. Protests from the localrnpopulation ( AEI 793) including thernTurkana governor, Josephat Nanok, havernadded to the delays. The energy ministerrnwill need to quickly find some commonrnground with the powerful governor, whornchairs the Council of Governors and hasrnpicked up a second mandate.
