The Petroleum Directorate, previouslyrnknown as PEPD, in Uganda’s energy ministerrnwill shortly have a new boss. AfricarnEnergy Intelligence understands thatrnRobert Kasande, who previously headedrnup the refinery project of Kabaale (Hoimarndistrict), is to be handed the sensitivernportfolio that involves advising the ministerrnin all matters related to explorationrnand production. He is to replace ErnestrnRubondo who left to head the new regulatory entity, Petroleum Authorityrnof Uganda (PAU) ( AEI 776)). Kasandernhas the advantage of hailing from the oilrnregion of Bunyoro, as does the powerfulrnsecretary-general at the ministry, FredrnKaliise Kabagambe, who backed him inrnassuming his new functions. As forrnKasande’s old job, his deputy, IrenernBatebe (who previously worked forrnFoster Wheeler) is expected to take overrnfrom him ( AEI 776).
