Welcome to the last issue of African Security Review for 2018, which has spilled into 2019. This is an unusual occurrence and one we constantly strive to avoid. Publishing Volume 27 was particularly challenging, given the difficulty in securing reviewers. Peer review of academic articles is an integral part of the academic profession and helps, if done correctly, to uphold standards in the profession. Without these services rendered timeously and rigorously by academics, publication of new contributions suffers. This is an ongoing duty for all of us. At the same time, we thank every reviewer who has reviewed our articles over the last year. Your expertise is indispensable.
