My first (and last) installation job was about 22 low ambient control (LAC) kits on a school job that had gotten fouled up. As a manufacturer's territory rep, I had sold the 22 RTUs sans LAC kit to a local contractor. When he realized my error, even though my company later supplied the LACs, he didn't want to eat the labor so demanded that I install them myself. One Saturday morning, he met me on the school roof, showed me how to install one LAC, and left. I finished about 6 units that day, then came backthe next weekend and completed 6 more. By the endof the second week, several of them had begun to leak.The contractor "fired" me and told me he would finish up theremainder of the 22 units himself.Somehow, he and I remained friends, though I truly doubt his hiringskills have improved much.
