Air Force Association officials held a chartering ceremony in early September to reactivate the P-47 Memorial Chapter in Newburgh, Ind. The chapter had been disbanded in 1998 and was reactivated due to rekindled interest. The nearest chapter is more than two hours away, said Ronald E. Axley, newly minted chapter president. "We had a lot of AFA members in the area who never attended meetings ... because of the distance."
