Many people are confused about how much space they should allow for the header of their resume. The header should never comprise more than three lines, with basic address information including your name, home address (no P.O. Box unless you're overseas), phone number, and email address. Cell phone information is optional; it's OK to substitute a cell phone number for your home phone if you're often away on temporary duty. Some people feel the urge to write their name in huge letters and then spread the address, phone number, and email address for another four or five lines below, thereby taking up almost a quarter of the first page. Economy of space and presentation are important. Allotting that much space for that information cuts into the resume's heart, which should instead highlight your education, experience, career employment history, and specific achievements.
