Americans are in a cranky mood, apprehensive about their role in global affairs. They have turned inward and become impatient with world engagement. So concludes "America's Place in the World," a quadrennial survey by the Pew Research Center in conjunction with the Council on Foreign Relations. For the first time in 45 years, a plurality (49 percent) said the US should "mind its own business"rn(Figure 1).
