France's interior Minister Gerard Collomb announced the signing of a €400 million contract with Conair for six Bombardier Dash 8 Q400MRs for the Securite Civile on January 15. The announcement confirmed a July 2017 undertaking to modernise the organisation's fire-fighting fleet. Manufacturer of the aircraft, Bombardier, simultaneously revealed it had sold six of the type to Conair in a $206 million deal. Conair will transform green airframes to fire-fighting aircraft by incorporating a retardant system and fitting each aircraft out to carry out passenger, cargo and medevac missions. The Dash 8s, as the Dash 8 Q400MR is known in Securite Civile service, will join two more of the type and the rest of the organisation's fixed-wing fleet of 12 Canadair CL415s, two Beech King Air 200s and nine Grumman S-2T Firecats at Nimes Garons Airport. The first completed aircraft is expected to be delivered next year when the new machines will begin to replace the nine Firecats.
