On March 30, 2018 .Boeing was awarded a $1.165 billion contract by US Naval Air Systems Command for long-lead non-recurring engineering required to develop a baseline configuration for the production and delivery of 22 F/A-18E and six F/A-18F Super Hornets to replace the Kuwaiti Air Force's legacy F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornets. The contract also covers the acquisition of radar warning receivers and aircraft armament. The aircraft must be ready for delivery by September 2022.
