The Russian Navy's Arctic UAV detachment began operations (in November. Based at Anadir airfield in Chukotka Peninsula, the unit is equipped with Orlan-10 and Forpost UAVs. Its main task is to undertake visual control of combat training exercises undertaken by Russian troops stationed in the Arctic, beyond the Polar Circle, as well as to perform surveys of the military infrastructure, studies of terrain features and aerial patrol in remote areas. The Russian MoD also reports that there are plans for Arctic-based UAV units to be equipped with a new and more capable system with a range of up to 1,500km (932 miles).
