easyJet has unveiled plans for a green taxiing system for its A320 family aircraft. The idea is similar to the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that has been used in Formula 1 racing cars. A hydrogen fuel cell stowed in the aircraft's hold will recover energy from the aircraft's brakes on landing. The energy will then charge lightweight fuel batteries that can be used for taxiing on the ground, without the aircraft needing to use its engines.
