From March 7 to 25, the 2016 edition of SERPENTEX was held at the BA126 Ventiseri-Solenzara on the island of Corsica. This well-known annual close air support (CAS) exercise is a proven Armee de I'Air training platform in preparing soon-to-be-deployed personnel. Its strength lies in integrating the latest return on experience from previous and current deployments. Corsica is an ideal environment for such an exercise. The airspace around the island is less saturated than the French mainland and the different landscapes offer a diverse training environment. Furthermore, Solenzara is suited for large-scale exercises. The BA126 base commander, Colonel Le Bouil, explained: "We can host a large contingent of troops and aircraft. During Operation Harmattan in 2011, we showed that dozens of fighter jets could operate besides transport and tanker aircraft."
