Last year was an important one in the history of Finmeccanica, the big Italian defence and security company. As happened with other major European groups, it was transformed from a group organisation to a one company arrangement, with the different elements of Finmeccanica becoming divisions of it. Starting on January 1, 2016, the new Divisione Elicotteri (Helicopter Division) absorbed all the activities of AgustaWestland (and its controlled PZL-Swidnik). The Divisione Velivoli (Aircraft Division) inherited part of the activities of Alenia Aermacchi. The Divisione Aerostrutture (Aerostructures Division) absorbed the remaining part of Alenia Aermacchi. The Divisione Sistemi Avionici e Spaziali (Airborne and Space Systems Division) received part of the activities of Selex ES. The Divisione Elettronica per la Difesa Terrestre e Navale (Land and Naval Defence Electronics Division), absorbed another part of Selex ES' activities, the Divisione Sistemi per la Sicurezza e le Informazioni (Security and Information Systems Division). The Division Sistemi di Difesa (Defence Systems Division) collected the activities of OTO Melara and Wass. Finmeccanica maintains corporate centre functions for the joint ventures and the controlled: DRS Technologies, MBDA, Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space and ATR.
