New branding is appearing on aircraft belonging to the LATAM Airlines Group, replacing the liveries of TAM Airlines of Brazil and LAN Chile. TAM and LAN merged in 2012 and announced last year that they would introduce a unified identity for the companies and their various subsidiaries. The first flight in the new livery was a special charter that took the Olympic torch from Geneva to Brazil for the start of the torch relay around the country ahead of this summer's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Commercial flights with the new identity began with a 767 flight from Sao Paulo to Santiago and Airbus A319 flights from Santiago to Lima and Sao Paulo to Brasilia. More than 50 aircraft will receive the new livery by the end of this year, the Group says. Repainting of the entire fleet is scheduled to be completed in 2018. The repainting process requires several applications of paint and Clearcoat gloss coating, and takes six days per aircraft: two to remove the previous livery and four to apply the new one. A 787, for example, requies 300 litres (66 gallons) of paint and 150 litres (33 gallons) of Clearcoat.
