Etihad Airways will shortly take delivery of its first Airbus A380-800 A6-APA. The United Arab Emirates flag carrier will place the aircraft on one of its three daily Abu Dhabi- Heathrow frequencies on December 27, replacing an A340-600. The European Commission has approved Etihad's equity investment in Alitalia. The Gulf airline will take a 49% stake in the Italian flag carrier, with the transaction due to be concluded by the end of the year. Alitalia's CEO Gabriele del Torchio said Etihad's investment "will provide financial stability and a foundation for long-term growth" at the airline, the seventh in which Etihad has purchased an equity stake.
