The Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) flew from Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, Honshu Island, on November 9. The first flight test aircraft (FTA 1, c 10001, JA21MJ) conducted a 90-minute flight, during which the crew carried out initial assessments of basic handling and performance in ascent, descent and turning. FTA 1 is one of five FTAs and will be used to explore the flight envelope and handling. A second aircraft, FTA 2 (c 10002, JA22MJ), will test functional performance. FTAs 3 and 4 (c 10003/JA23MJ and c 10004, JA24MJ) will respectively assess flight characteristics/avionics and noise, anti-ice and interior. A fifth FTA (c 10005, JA25MJ), painted in the colours of the MRJ's launch operator All Nippon Airways, will undertake autopilot tests.
