It sold like hot cakes. Between its April 2004 launch and its roll-out three years later, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner became the fastest-selling widebody airliner ever - and received a Guinness World Record to verify it. Later, the positive headlines due to the 787's sales and the savings promised by its technologies were rather put into the shade. Mainstream press attention turned to the development and production delays that meant Dreamliners only entered service in 2011, three years later than initially planned, and then the fleet-wide, three-month grounding in early 2013 due to Lithium-ion battery system issues.
