Singapore Airlines (SIA)'s first A350-900 (msn 26, F-WZFU, to become 9V-SMA) has rolled-out of the Toulouse paint shop, shortly after Airbus launched a new option for the A350-900 called the A350-900 Ultra-Long Range (ULR). SIA is the launch customer and has amended its existing order for 63 A350-900s so that seven will be delivered as A350-900ULRs. The airline also ordered four A350-900s, taking its total firm A350 orders to 67. SIA intends to operate the A350-900ULRs on an 8,700nm (16,112km) route from Singapore to New York JFK. The airline previously flew services to JFK using A340-500S, but those flights ended in September 2013 when the carrier phased out that type.
