The Aeronautical Development Agency/ Hindustan Aeronautic Ltd Tejas Light Combat Aircraft has received its Release to Service certificate with the Indian Air Force. The Defence Minister, A K Antony, handed over the certificate to Air Chief Marshal P V Naik at the HAL Airport in Bangalore on January 10. The initial operational clearance (IOC) allows regular Indian Air Force pilots (as opposed to test pilots) to routinely fly the aircraft and clears the way for the delivery of the first of 40 production standard Tejas Mk Is to the service before the end of 2011.
