On January 25 the Sudan People's Air Force demonstrated two of its new Mil Mi-17-V5 Hips over the city of Juba in South Sudan. By December 2010, eight new Mi-17-V5s produced by Kazan Helicopters had arrived at Juba Airport for the new organisation. Another two Hips, comprising a single Mi-17-V5 and a VIP configured Mi-172, had joined the original batch by January. The helicopters were flown into Entebbe in Uganda as air freight before flying to Juba Airport, where they are housed in toekols (wooden huts) built by the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA).
