On February 21 the first Embraer EMB-145 Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft for the Indian Air Force was rolled out at the manufacturer's headquarters at Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo in Brazil. The aircraft is the first of three examples for India, comprising one engineering prototype and two production systems. Mission equipment for the aircraft is being developed by the Centre for Airborne Systems, part of the Indian Defence Research & Development Organisation. At the time of the rollout the aircraft was fitted with a mock-up airborne early warning radar mounted above the fuselage. The radar has two side looking arrays that will scan sectors of between 130° and 150° each side of the aircraft. In addition to the radar and related mission consoles in the cabin, the aircraft will have an extensive communications suite, including SATCOM, and will be capable of in-flight refuelling.
