The Italian Protezione Civile (Civil Protection) agency has awarded the Spanish company INAER a contract to manage its fleet of 19 Bombardier 415s. INAER's Italian subsidiary, INAER Aviation Italia, will undertake the operational management and technical maintenance of the aircraft under the terms of the deal, which is worth approximately €45 million a year. A new hangar is being built at Albacete to allow the fleet to be worked upon there. Details of the contract were announced by INAER on April 15. By then it had conducted maintenance on the aircraft and trained 50 pilots for the 2011 fire- fighting season. Six aircraft have been pre-positioned at Rome-Ciampino, Lamezia and Genoa, while the contract calls for 15 to be available by June 15, plus over 100 pilots.
