Embraer's studies for a medium transport, then known as the C-390, were revealed on April 17, 2007, at the biannual Latin America Aero & Defence Exhibition held at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, although market assessment had commenced two years earlier. Illustrations of the aircraft revealed a high-wing twin- turbofan with a low-mounted tailplane, while literature drew attention to the commonality of systems and some structura elements - notably the flight deck, wing and control surfaces -with the successful E-Jet airliner range. The company anticipated that C-390 development would cost $500 million and take four years from launch, which was scheduled for 2008.
