Turkey's Savunma Sanayii Mustesarligi (SSM, Under-secretariat for Defence Industries) published a request for proposals (RfP) in late June for direct procurement of 15 light multi-purpose helicopters for the Emniyet Genel Mudurlugu (EGM, Security General Directorate). Three companies have responded to the RfP - AgustaWestland, Bell Helicopter Textron and Eurocopter Deutschland. The RfP for the Turkish National Police Light Helicopter Project (TPHP) is a major milestone in the modernisation of the aviation branch of the EGM. The service is also due to receive a total of 20 Sikorsky/ TAI T-70 Black Hawk multi-purpose helicopters as part of the Turkish Utility Helicopter Project (TUHP). EGM's ten-year aviation master plan includes procurement of two fixed- and 102 rotary-wing aircraft, the latter all powered by two engine types. After the completion of TPHP and TUHP, the EGM plans to procure 60 additional medium helicopters together with five heavy multipurpose and two Sikorsky S-92As for VIP transport duties.
