Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) grounded Tiger Airways Australia on July 2. The regulator suspended operations of the Australian arm of Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier after judging that the airline posed a "serious and imminent risk to air safety. CASA no longer has confidence in its ability to satisfactorily address the safety issues that have been identified," it said. The carrier responded by saying it would "co-operate fully" with CASA "to achieve a satisfactory outcome to its investigation at the earliest opportunity." Crawford Rix, the airline's Chief Executive, resigned as a result of the action. CASA initially grounded the airline for a week.
