The Ukrainian news agency, Interfax-Ukraine, announced on June 29 that negotiations are currently being held between Ukraine and Iran for a large-scale deal potentially worth several billion dollars. It calls for cooperation in the manufacture of the Antonov An-148 (capacity of 65 to 68 seats) and An-158 (up to 99 seats) regional jets. The talks were revealed by Dmitry Kiva, Designer General of Antonov State Enterprise. He said a preliminary agreement already signed by both parties calls for the manufacture of 18 aircraft in Ukraine, while 60 more will be assembled locally in Iran. Kiva also said that the final agreement should be signed within 2011.
