L-3 Mission Integration and South Africa's Aerosud displayed their Spydr intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft at the Waterkloof Airshow in South Africa on October 1 as part of ongoing efforts to sell the system to African customers. The Spydr is being offered to all Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries for lease or outright purchase. L-3 said the aircraft can be deployed operationally in less than a year and can be used for maritime surveillance and border control work. The South African Air Force has expressed the need for a new maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft under its Project Saucepan requirement.
