On September 23 the Egyptian Air Force took delivery of the first of three Airbus Military C295 medium transports ordered in October last year (further to 3 C-295sjbi Egypt, December 2010, p28). The North African nation will receive the remaining examples before the end of the year. Airbus said Egypt chose the aircraft because of its versatility, ease of maintenance and ability to operate in desert areas. The C295s will operate alongside the Egyptian Air Force's Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Antonov An-74s and de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalos.
